The app

This is what they see.

The Mimi Care home screen: Good morning, Margaret. A large Tap to talk button, today’s medicines with Took it buttons, and Help me, Scam check and My people at the bottom.
  • Tap to talk. One big button. Ask anything out loud.
  • Today’s medicines. A reminder, and one tap to say it’s done.
  • Help me · Scam check · My people. Everything else is one tap away.

Voice first

Just say it.

Most of Mimi Care works by voice. They tap the circle that says “Tap to talk” and speak the way they would to a friend — no menus to learn, nothing to type.

The Mimi Care talk screen. Mimi Care’s answer reads: “Good morning, Margaret. You have two medicines coming up in about an hour: Amlodipine and Levothyroxine. And later today you wanted to call your daughter, Sarah. Would you like me to remind you?”

Ask out loud, and hear the answer out loud.

Things they can say

  • “What medicines do I take today?”
  • “What do I have tomorrow?”
  • “Remind me to call Sarah at three.”
  • “Call Sarah.”
  • “I took my pill.”
  • “Read this letter to me.”
  • “What did that letter last week say?”
  • “Remember that my granddaughter Emma loves gardening.”

When they ask Mimi Care to add something or call someone, a card appears first. Nothing happens until they say “yes” or tap it.

For your parent

A bill shouldn’t feel like a test.

Mimi Care is for the ordinary, important things a patient person used to walk through in person — explained plainly, out loud.

  • Bills & mail.

From utility statements to Medicare letters. Mimi Care describes what’s on the page and names the parts that matter.

  • Technology help.

A Wi-Fi pop-up, the TV remote, the thermostat, a confusing email. A photo gets step-by-step directions in plain language.

  • Possible scams.

Flags urgent threats, fake Medicare or IRS letters and strange phone numbers, so they can stop and check before money moves.

  • Medicine reminders.

A reminder when it’s time, and a quick “I took it” to say it’s done. Dosing questions go to the pharmacist.

  • Doctor visits.

With the other person’s OK, Mimi Care records the visit and keeps a summary they can listen to again.

  • Someone to talk to.

A friendly voice to talk with about the garden, the grandkids or their day. If they want, Mimi Care remembers what matters to them.

And more:

  • Calendar and remindersAppointments and reminders, added by voice; family can add them too.
  • “Call my daughter”They say who to call from their people; a card with a Call button appears, and nothing happens until they tap Call or say yes.
  • Weather and newsThe weather where they are, and a few light headlines, read out loud.
  • “What did that letter say?”They ask about a letter or a recording from before, and hear a short reminder of it.
  • English and SpanishEnglish or Spanish, switched in Settings.
  • Bigger textBigger words, from Settings.
  • No passwordsA setup code and a 4-digit PIN once; never a password.
  • Reminders in your voiceA medicine reminder can play in a familiar voice, recorded by family or by them.
  • Home-screen widgetToday’s medicines, reminders and appointments on the phone’s home screen.
  • Steps and falls*Steps on iPhone, and falls with an Apple Watch; they choose whether family sees them.

*Steps need an iPhone; falls also need an Apple Watch.

How it works

If they can take a photo, they can use Mimi Care.

  1. Step 1

    They snap a photo.

A letter, a bill, a medicine label, a remote. Or they just tap the big button and talk.

  2. Step 2

    Mimi Care explains it.

Out loud, in plain words, the important parts first. The words are on the screen too.

  3. Step 3

    They ask anything.

“When is it due?” “Is this a scam?” Mimi Care answers, and suggests checking with someone they trust before acting.

Someone to talk to

A friendly voice, any time of day.

Talk about the garden, the grandkids, or how the day went. Mimi Care listens and chats back, without rushing. Talk time comes with your plan’s minutes of talking.

  • Remembers what matters to them.

If they turn on “Let Mimi Care remember our conversations”, Mimi Care remembers the people in their life and what they enjoy, to know them a little better next time.

  • Their talks, their settings.

If “Share our talks with my family” is off, family sees nothing about their talks. Remembering and sharing are settings they can change.

Mimi Care is an AI helper, not a person.

Backup when it matters

Independent, not alone.

When something looks wrong, Mimi Care says so, and family hears about it.

  • Scam warning signs

Mimi Care points out pressure to pay, threats and strange phone numbers, and family gets a heads-up.

  • The red SOS button

Gets the phone ready to call 911 and alerts family right away.

  • When they need someone

If they say they’re hurt, or that someone is pushing them for money, family hears right away. Never their words.

Mimi Care isn’t a medical alert or emergency service. In an emergency, call 911.

For you

Stay close without hovering.

You get your own side of Mimi Care, in the app on your phone or at mimicare.ai on your computer.

  • Your Inbox

A possible scam, a medicine that ran out, a change waiting for your OK.

  • Their day

Reminders done and today’s appointments, plus medicines taken when they share them.

  • Medicines

Once they say yes, add and change medicines, approve changes and hear when one runs low.

  • Appointments

Add them from anywhere, or email one to their own Mimi Care address.

  • Doctor visits

Read the summary and transcript of a visit they share.

  • Alerts

An SOS, a missed medicine, or a sign they may need you right now. Never their words.

You handle setup and payment, so they never see a password or a card. Family plans cover two or three people.

Honest by design

Rules we built in from day one.

  • Never says a letter is theirs.

Mail can be misdelivered or a scam. Mimi Care says what it looks like and who it’s addressed to.

  • Never tells them to pay or sign.

Mimi Care explains, then suggests checking with someone they trust.

  • Private unless they share.

Family sees what Mimi Care told them only if they choose to share it.

  • An AI helper, not a person.

Mimi Care says so up front, and never pretends otherwise.

Why I built it

A ton of bricks.

When I was younger I remember watching my parents deal with my grandparents on ordinary daily issues. Frustrations were high on both sides — my grandparents felt like they were being a burden, and my parents felt stretched thin trying to help.

As my parents have aged, it hit me like a ton of bricks: I’m in the same position now that they were in with their parents. My parents want to be independent. They don’t want to feel like they’re burdening their children. Although — sometimes I think they call with a problem just to have a conversation.

Mimi Care doesn’t replace that personal family connection. Nothing should. The purpose is to give a little independence back to the people who may need some additional assistance with the ordinary stuff — a confusing bill, a medication label, a letter that looks urgent but isn’t.

About the name. It’s for my mom. Our family calls her Mimi, so I named it after her.

Who it helps

Not just for one person.

I started building Mimi Care for my own parents. Along the way it became clear the same patient voice is needed by a lot of different people — and everyone deserves it spoken their way.

A parent

Living independently and wants to keep it that way. Mail, bills, and medication shouldn’t be the thing that tips the balance.

A grandparent

Loves the grandkids and the garden. Everything else — the Wi-Fi password, the Medicare letter — can be a lot.

A spouse or partner

You’re in it together. Mimi Care can be a patient second set of eyes for both of you, any time of day.

Someone with low vision

Point the camera, tap, listen. Mimi Care reads small print and medicine labels out loud, without magnification or contrast tools.

Someone who finds reading hard

Dyslexia, cognitive changes, English as a second language — Mimi Care explains it plainly, in English or Spanish, and answers questions without treating anyone like they should already know.

You, eventually

The paperwork doesn’t get lighter. Mimi Care is being built to still be here when it’s your turn — honest, patient, and on your side.

Meets them where they are

One person isn’t every person.

Mimi Care has built-in communication styles you can set once and forget — standard, short and simple, easy read, literal and direct, or slow pace. The app adapts to the person using it, not the other way around.

Questions families ask

Who sets it up?

Usually you. About 5 minutes on your phone or computer, then about 5 on theirs with a code you send. They never see a password or a payment screen.

Will my parent actually use it?

It’s built for people who don’t like technology: big text, one big button, and they just talk. No passwords. Family handles the setup.

Is it safe? What happens to the photos?

Photos travel over an encrypted connection to us and to our AI provider, which reads them to answer. We keep an encrypted copy so they can look back; it’s deleted after 180 days unless they keep it. We never use it to train AI.

Is Mimi Care a real person?

No. Mimi Care is an AI helper, not a person. Mimi Care explains and describes, and suggests checking with family before acting on anything.

Help them stay independent.
