About the AI in Mimi Care

What's happening when you take a picture
When you photograph a bill, a letter, a medicine bottle, or anything else, Mimi Care sends that picture to an artificial intelligence called Claude, made by a company called Anthropic. Mimi Care sends the picture to Anthropic's service over a secure connection, and Claude reads what's in it and writes a short explanation in plain English. Mimi Care then reads that explanation out loud to you. Anthropic's terms do not allow it to use what you send to train its AI.
You are talking to a computer program. There is no human on the other end.
Companion chatbots may not be suitable for minors. Mimi Care is for adults 18 and over.
What Mimi Care can help with
- Reading a bill and telling you what it looks like it says
- Explaining mail — what it appears to be, who it seems to be addressed to
- Flagging possible scams — unusual urgency, suspicious phone numbers, requests for gift cards or bank info
- Describing a medication label — the name, the strength, the directions as printed
- Identifying what's on your phone screen when you need tech help
- Describing a household item or notice you're not sure about
Talking with Mimi Care
You can also simply talk with Mimi Care — about your day, the people in your life, or anything on your mind. The same AI, Claude, writes Mimi Care's side of the conversation.
- If you let Mimi Care remember our conversations (you choose this in Settings, and you can turn it off at any time), it keeps a few things you share, to know you better next time, and short notes on what each conversation was about. You can see all of them in Settings, have a note read to you, and remove any of them. Turning remembering off deletes what it remembered.
- Mimi Care does not keep a recording of your conversations. A text copy of every exchange with the AI is kept in an encrypted legal record for 6 years (see "Your privacy" below).
- Every time you talk with Mimi Care, it sends Claude your medicines, reminders, and calendar for the day, so it can answer questions about your day — and, if you let it remember, what it remembers. When you ask about past helps or recordings, it sends what's saved about them.
- Your family sees the notes only if you choose to share them, and only for conversations you had while sharing was on. If you ask Mimi Care to set a topic aside, it won't bring that topic up, and the topic is left out of the notes your family could see.
- Mimi Care may let your family know if something you say suggests you might need them — see "Threats, self-harm, and abuse" below.
What Mimi Care cannot do
Mimi Care is not:
- A doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. It will not tell you what medicine to take, how much to take, whether two medicines are safe together, or what a symptom means.
- A lawyer. It will not tell you whether to sign something, whether a notice is legally binding, or what a court document means for your case.
- A financial advisor, accountant, or tax preparer. It will not tell you whether to pay a bill, whether a charge is correct, or how to file taxes.
- A friend who knows your life. It doesn't know your history, your other medicines, your family, or your finances.
- An emergency service. If something is wrong right now, call 911.
Mimi Care will never tell you to do something. It will describe what it sees and suggest you check with a person you trust.
Medical information
Mimi Care is not a medical device. It will not look at photos of your body, describe injuries, or help with rashes, bruises, wounds, or any other medical concern. For anything involving your body or a medical question, please call your doctor, pharmacist, or 911 in an emergency.
Content we refuse
Mimi Care will respond with a warm redirect (not an analysis) when:
- The photo is not a document — e.g., a selfie, a photo of a person, a pet, an empty wall, a blank or very dark frame. These happen by accident; we gently ask you to try again.
- The photo contains adult or sexually explicit content — Mimi Care refuses without describing what it saw, and the photo is not saved.
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Apparent CSAM is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as federal law requires. We rely on Cloudflare's CSAM Scanning Tool, which may report matches of known material to NCMEC. If we are notified that it matched a photo saved as a help, we keep an unaltered, still-encrypted copy of that help as evidence for 7 years (see mimicare.ai/privacy §8A). We never describe or display such content.
- The image or your voice note concerns political figures, political parties, elections, or partisan topics — Mimi Care is not built for political discussion and will politely decline. This applies regardless of framing. No political content creates a safety incident or is reported to any authority.
Threats, self-harm, and abuse
Mimi Care runs safety checks on voice notes, typed questions, and its conversations with you. If you express:
- Thoughts of hurting yourself or ending your life, Mimi Care will give you the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and let the family on your account know that you may need them. If it seems you may be in danger right now, our staff may also give local law enforcement identifying information so they can check on you.
- A medical emergency happening now — such as chest pain, trouble breathing, or a fall you can't get up from — Mimi Care will tell you to call 911 and let the family on your account know.
- Someone pressuring you for money — gift cards, wire transfers, or keeping it secret — Mimi Care will suggest you check with someone you trust first and let the family on your account know.
- A threat to harm another specific person, Mimi Care may preserve the transcript and aggregate identifying metadata from the account, and our staff may voluntarily report it to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or local law enforcement.
- Signs of being abused or coerced by someone you know, Mimi Care sends the family on your account a general notification that something may need a caring check-in (unless they have turned those notifications off) — it never shares your words, and it doesn't show on the family dashboard — and alerts Mimi Care's staff. A person on our staff decides whether to refer the matter to state Adult Protective Services; nothing is referred automatically.
When Mimi Care lets your family know, it sends a notification to their Mimi Care app, or, if the notification can't reach anyone's app, an email to the account holder. It never shares your words — only that you may need them. If you set up Mimi Care for yourself and no family member is on your account, Mimi Care cannot notify anyone — it will always give you the number to call.
These events are rare. They create a narrow, disclosed exception to how we normally handle what you share — see mimicare.ai/privacy §8A.
We can't promise to catch everything. These safety features do their best, but they are not a guarantee. Mimi Care might miss a scam, a medical problem, or a sign that someone is in trouble — and it might warn you about something that turns out to be fine. Please don't rely on Mimi Care as your only safeguard. If something feels wrong, or if there's an emergency, call 911 or a person you trust.
When to call a person instead
Before you pay, sign, click, call back, or take a pill based on something Mimi Care said:
- For medicine — call your pharmacist (the number is usually on the bottle)
- For a doctor's letter or lab result — call your doctor's office
- For a legal notice, court paper, or contract — call a lawyer or your state bar's referral service
- For a bill, a charge, or a tax letter — call the company on the statement or someone you trust who helps with finances
- For anything that feels like a scam — don't act, and call someone you trust first. Scammers push you to act fast. Taking a minute is safe.
Mimi Care has a Call for Help button on every screen. It calls one of the help contacts set up for you.
How accurate is it?
Claude is usually right. It is not always right. It can misread handwriting, blurry photos, poor lighting, or complicated forms. It can miss something important. It can confidently say something that turns out to be wrong.
Always confirm anything that matters with a person you trust. That is the single most important rule.
If Mimi Care says something and you think it's wrong, ask a follow-up question about it — and check with a person you trust.
Your privacy
- We save every help. When Mimi Care helps you with a picture, we keep an encrypted copy of it on our servers: the photo (usually made smaller by the app, to at most 1,600 pixels on its longest side, plus a small preview), your question, the explanation, any follow-up questions and answers, and the spoken version you hear. We keep it for 180 days, or for as long as you like if you — or a family member who can see it — choose Keep forever, and you can delete it anytime (a text copy stays in the protected legal record described below). A copy of the explanation also stays on your phone so you can listen again later.
- Who can open your helps. You can, in the app. Your family can, if you choose to share your helps with them. Our support staff can see what your family can see while helping with your account, and each time is recorded. Mimi Care's systems can open them to show them to you and to answer your questions about them. The encryption uses a Mimi Care key, not a key that belongs only to your account.
- What Anthropic does with it. Anthropic's terms prohibit using what you send to train its AI. Under Anthropic's published policy, it deletes what we send it within 30 days, and keeps it longer (up to 2 years) only if its own safety systems flag it for review. To make follow-up questions fast, parts of a request may be held in Anthropic's temporary cache for 5 minutes after they were last used.
- Our log of requests to the AI. For each request Mimi Care sends to Claude, Mimi Care's own log on Cloudflare keeps only a short record that it happened — the time, which AI was used, its size and cost, and codes instead of names — not your photo, your question or what you said, or the answer. We use it to track costs and fix problems.
- A protected legal record. A text copy of what you asked or said and Mimi Care's answer — no audio and no photos — is kept encrypted for 6 years, even after you delete a help. Our servers can't read it; it is opened only when the law requires it, and every opening is logged. Details: mimicare.ai/privacy §8J.
- Your voice. When you ask a question out loud, the recording is turned into text and the recording is then deleted; the text is saved with your help. If you use the recorder to record a conversation, that recording is saved, encrypted, for up to 180 days unless you choose Keep forever, and you can delete it anytime (see mimicare.ai/privacy §8D).
- Full details on what's kept, for how long, and how to delete it: mimicare.ai/privacy (§8E).
- We do not sell your information.

Who's behind the AI
- Claude, by Anthropic — reads and explains photos, answers your questions, and writes Mimi Care's side of a conversation. We reach it through Anthropic's service (and, as an alternative, can run it through Amazon Web Services). For some questions, Claude may look something up on the public web — for example, a company's phone number.
- Deepgram — turns your spoken words into text, and reads answers aloud in a warm voice. We ask Deepgram not to use what we send to improve its models.
- OpenAI Whisper — a backup that turns spoken questions into text if needed
- Cloudflare — runs Mimi Care's servers, small automatic safety checks on what's shared, and the gateway that keeps Mimi Care's log of requests to the AI, and stores the encrypted legal record
All are American companies. Mimi Care is built by BNC Solutions LLC.
